摘要：服装—是人类生活中不可或缺的生活用品，在生活当中，人们一般比较注重服装外在的形态美，而往往容易忽略服装的舒身合体、舒适感、快感、实用功能等服装内在的结构美。服装的形态美是款式设计的重要内容，服装的结构美主要通过服装结构设计来创建。正如一位意大利时装评论家所说：“如果一件时装被买走，可能是外形设计师的功劳，但这件时装经常被人从衣柜里挑出来穿，那一定是结构设计的功劳。”也就是说，服装的款式外形再美而不具有美的结构，生产出来的产品“服不能装”，从而失去了它的实用价值和使用价值。
服装是为人体服务的，它应表现人，挖掘和体现人体的静态和动态的自然美，弥补和修饰人体的不足。而服装结构设计就是为了更好地完成服装以上的目的，它以人体为中心，而人体是由头、躯干与四肢组成，它们的基本形状与尺寸是构成服装衣片的形状与大小的基础。
