求书虫系列《维多利亚女王》英语读后感初中水平60-70子

Pure Victoriana, the idealized love of the unattainable maiden,is the crux of this novel illustrating the sensibilities that informed the writing of the 1890s.This carefully constructed psychological study reads almost like a fable, the protagonist viewing the world through the distance of class and opportunity.Johannes is the son of a mill owner, trapped in a society that separates him from the children of a prominent family.
Watching covetously from afar,fourteen-year-old Johannes witnesses the adventures of those who live in the local manor - what he thinks of as 鈥淭he Castle鈥 - their fairy tale lives a far cry from his daily labors, the pampered children of wealth frolicking on the Norway coast.Johannes is fascinated by Victoria,in awe of her beauty although she is only ten years old.Like the others,Victoria treats him like a servant, someone to do their bidding but never part of their social circle.A dreamer,Johannes writes the poetry that will define his youth, inspired by Victoria and his secret yearning for her affection.
As the years pass,Victoria is not immune to Johannes鈥 charms, frequently indulging in repartee, encouraging the love she knows is blossoming. To Victoria, this flirtation is amusing, knowing as she does that their romance can never come to fruition given the vast differences in their backgrounds and social status.Johannes nurtures his secret love, writing to assuage the pain, but leaves home the better to endure an unrequited love.
Meeting with some success abroad,Johannes pens poetry and novels, his longing heart comforted by his fantasies.Ever practical,Victoria struggles with family obligations and eventually becomes engaged to a young man of means. After his return,Victoria is surprised by the power of her reaction to Johannes. Now a man of the world,Johannes is less constrained than in his youth, hoping that Victoria will finally entertain his affections, but her response is ambiguous, the message unclear.
The scenes repeat themselves in an interesting construct, reality and Johannes鈥 imagination evolving in a unique 鈥渟equence of episodes鈥 as Victoria pushes and pulls Johannes in a private tug-of-war.Regardless of time or unfolding events,Johannes remains Victoria鈥檚 prisoner, acting out their drama over and over without resolution, erotic impulse governed by psychological constraints. The beloved never escapes from the imagination, the wanting more powerful than the deed could ever be.
To the end,Johannes鈥 inspiration is inextricable from his yearning, the passion for Victoria giving birth to his talent, the unavailability of his muse a catalyst that informs his prolific work,a perpetual source of unfulfilled adoration.Johannes exists in his fantasy world, destined to dance forever on the edge of unrequited romance, the lover always out of reach.

Queen Victoria has more biographies written about her than any woman born after 1800.This biography takes note of the work done in the past and tries to fill in where the author thinks previous works have been lacking. She is a paradoxical monarch who is largely misunderstood.Becoming Queen in 1837 at the tender age of 18,her 64 year reign would span one of the greatest periods of cultural evolution in history.Europe was also unusually peaceful during this period.A shrewed politian,Victoria was the last British monarch to wield great authority. To help explain the "Victorian" zietgiest,a large portion is devoted to the relationship between Victoria and her Husband,Prince Albert. This book's greatest weakness is it's greatest asset:it is short (many other biographies are published in large volumes). At the expence of the druging details of history,he provides a biography that is both interesting and manageable. In the author's own words,he aims to "whet the readers appitite for more and to alert that same reader to the books and articles in which additional historical nourishment may be found." (p.13) A great book,an easy read; 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Queen Victoria is an engaging expose of both the private and public life of the princess who inherited Britain's throne as a teenager and became the strong guiding figure and symbolic head of the largest empire in the world.Drawing upon past studies and research as well as Victoria's own writings to illuminate her not only as a ruler, but as a human being gripped by concerns ranging from gender roles and religion to political machinations and the state of Ireland. An excellently researched and presented portrayal of one of the strongest and most influential women of history.

Victoria's image (at least to Americans) is of the stuffy old monarch, unsmiling, and always dressed in black.Hibbert portrays quite a different picture - of a young woman who loved parties, dancing, and the affection of men.He also makes clear Victoria's physical passion for her husband,Albert. This is evident in the passage where, after giving birth to eight children, she is advised by her doctor not to have anymore. Her response was "You mean I can't have any more fun in bed?" Not what we expect from a Victorian!
The portrait of a post-Albert Victoria is of a woman devasted by the death of her lover.Clearly the modern picture of Victoria comes from this stage of her life. However, this image is based on incorrect assumptions.Where we assume the stolid, frumpy queen arises from her belief in Victorian morals,in this book the picture is of a woman who lost her most precious soulmate, and whose last 40 years were a struggle against loneliness and depression, while bearing the heavy responsibility of being the most powerful monarch in the world.
The book also vividly portrays the numerous characters in this remarkable woman's life, including Lord Liverpool, the Duke of Wellington,Disraeli, and Kaiser Wilhelm.
